NEWS RELEASE

July 24, 2014

The Rotary Club of Burney has secured a $10,000 grant to assist Mayers Memorial Healthcare District in funding a new ambulance. The grant was obtained through the Rotary District Grant process from Rotary District 5160, which encompasses 26 Rotary Clubs stretching from the Bay Area to the Oregon border.

The Club proposes to match the grant with local funds of $15,000 raised from Club members and community members. With the Rotary funding, and through additional grants from the Indian Gaming Local Community Benefit Committee and the Sierra Health Foundation, hospital funds, and funds from the Intermountain Healthcare Foundation, the total cost of approximately $161,000 for a new ambulance will be funded.

"The existing primary ambulance is the oldest operating ambulance in Northern California and covers an area larger than the state of Vermont", according to Margaret Truan, Director of Volunteer Services at Mayers Memorial Healthcare District. Marlene McArthur, CEO of the Intermountain Healthcare Foundation said, "We truly appreciate the members of the Burney Rotary Club, and especially the work Bob Jehn did to secure this funding for our ambulance."

"We are more than pleased to be able to assist the community in this way", said Bob Jehn, President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Burney. Bob also pointed out that the club is in the process of changing its name to the Rotary Club of Burney-Fall River, to more accurately reflect the Club's involvement in the entire Intermountain Community.

Additionally, MMHD recently received a grant from the Local Communities Benefit Committee; comprised of members from the Redding Rancheria, City of Redding and Shasta County.

Mayers Memorial Healthcare District Emergency Department Manager, Kathy Broadway and Intermountain Healthcare Foundation CEO, Marlene McArthur were present at the Redding Rancheria press conference to receive the symbolic check for $51,830.
