North State Giving Tuesday

December 2, 2025

“A senior project was mandatory for the school, which included contributing 20 hours of community service. My mentor, an EMT, and I, put on three CPR training events, which totaled 23 hours. The events consisted of people who worked at the fire hall, hospital, and school, allowing them and me to get CPR/first aid certified. For my senior year of high school, I made the ambitious decision to complete my senior year through the College Connections program at Shasta College. This allows me to earn both high school and college credits at the same time. I have received a total of 25 credits and have earned Dean’s List recognition for my performance at Shasta College.

My biggest goal is to get into the healthcare profession and become a diagnostic medical sonographer. I plan to attend Oregon Institute of Technology to become an ultrasound technician - specifically an obstetric sonographer. This university offers a Bachelor of Science in diagnostic medical sonography to become an ultrasound technician. After completing my schooling at OIT, I aim to work in a hospital or diagnostic imaging center. I have always had a passion for the healthcare industry and hope to achieve this career goal. I look forward to the opportunity to contribute positively to the field of ultrasound technicians.”

Each year, Mayers Healthcare Foundation participates in North State Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a movement that began in 2012 to promote charitable giving during the Thanksgiving holiday season. It has become an international phenomenon with billions of dollars donated online to nonprofit organizations on the first Tuesday following Thanksgiving Day. North State Giving Tuesday provides nonprofit organizations the opportunity to gain exposure and start relationships with new donors, and for the people in Shasta, Siskiyou and Tehama counties to come together to raise as much money as possible for participating organizations within a 14-hour period.

This year, Mayers Healthcare Foundation is dedicating funds contributed through North State Giving Tuesday to the Mayers Memorial Hospital District Employee Scholarship and CNA Program. We believe this will lead to many great partnerships and careers providing for the healthcare needs of the residents in our Inter-Mountain communities.

The Community Foundation of the North State developed and launched North State Giving Tuesday (NSGT) as an online networking and giving event for Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama county nonprofits. NSGT has significantly grown in popularity and impact each year, raising nearly $4 million since inception.
